About I, Scientist

I, Scientist is a unique conference that emerged in 2017 as a response to the obvious gender imbalance in STEM fields. Our goal is to increase awareness of structural inequalities responsible for this imbalance and provide support and mentorship for young scientist. We present a platform in which people can discuss these problems and try to find possible solutions.

Gender imbalance is not only intrinsic to STEM fields. This year we want to expand the particular focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields and open up to a broader view at the academic system. We will cover this with a session on gender in academia and science and another one on social entrepreneurship.

I, Scientist is meant to be a save platform for everyone. We show solidarity with the BlackLivesMatter movement and will have a session focused on race in academia and science this year, given the recent events happening in the US. Moreover, we will have a session on LGTBQIA+ in science and academia to increase their visibility in this white male dominated system.

Finally, and in face of the coronavirus outbreak, this year’s conference will be held virtually. Next to the adapted format, we will integrate the impacts of the global pandemic and the lock down as topics in our conference as well.
